Ball Room (Grimthorpe room)

This room was original Ball Room of the 'big house'. This room provides an excellent setting for a wide range of turret clocks, most of which can be seen running. Here also are the atomic clock which provided the 'six pips' signal for the BBC, and two of the original Post Office Speaking Clocks. Observatory timekeeping earlier this century was carried out by the Shortt Free Pendulum and three fine examples (one running) of this superb clock are on display.
