AMERICAN CLOCKS
The repair of these clocks, plus a comprehensive history of their growth and development.

ANTIQUE CLOCKS PART I
Research, conservation practice, historical development of movements, dials cases etc. Replace missing parts, train and count wheels

ANTIQUE CLOCK PART II
Longcase, Fusee and Bracket Clocks. Includes replacement of missing parts. Ideal for preparation of Records of Repair/Portfolios. 

BASIC CLOCK PART I
For members with little or no experience, dismantling, assembly, cleaning, bushing, pivot repairs and general servicing.

BASIC CLOCK PART II
For more experienced members and those pursuing the DL course.  Includes replacement of missing parts.  Westminster Chiming Clocks/French Marble/ may also be covered if required.

BASIC WATCH COURSE – Mechanical
For beginners wishing to further their knowledge. Practical help and instruction on the basics of watch repairing and servicing.

BASIC WATCH COURSE – Quartz
To equip beginners with the basics of dealing with quartz watches, covering both theory and practical work.

CYLINDER ESCAPEMENT
Aimed at all levels.  Learn how cylinders are made and understand the finer points of how they work.  Particularly of interest to the Final Grade Parts I and II students and members carrying out repairs on antique watches and antique platform escapements.

ENGINEERS’ SMALL LATHES, MILLING AND DRILLING MACHINES
Safe use of the small engineers’ lathe, drilling and milling machines and how to sharpen and set tool bits.

MAKE A MOVEMENT FOR A FRANKLIN CLOCK
This is a pure clock making course for the member with some experience but who has never made a complete clock movement.

MAKING CLOCK PARTS
Learn the techniques of making clock components to replace missing or damaged clock parts.

MAKING JEWELS FOR CLOCK/WATCH MAKING
To show some of the history of horological jewel making and to demonstrate how clock and watch jewels can be made with simple tools in the workshop.

OPEN SUMMER SCHOOL DLC STUDENTS
The BHI is offering a flexible Open Summer School covering aspects of the DLC course. Tutors John Reynolds and Alan Midleton will also assist students preparing for examinations, record of repairs and portfolios.

OPEN CLOCK WORKSHOP
For any member professional or amateur who may have a troublesome clock project and requires assistance with various aspects of design and/or construction, or attempting a repair, which requires guidance on techniques or help with machinery.

RECOIL & DEADBEAT/WHEEL & PINION CUTTING
For members and DLC students wishing to manufacture running parts i.e. train wheels, recoil and deadbeat escapements. 

SERVICE/REPAIR DAY/DATE AUTOMATICS
For watch technicians with basic skills who wish to extend their knowledge of day/date automatics and improve the quality of service on the mechanical watches. 

SERVICE/REPAIR OF PLATFORM ESCAPEMENTS parts 1 & 2 and parts 3 & 4
2 weekends- students will handle and repair a Swiss lever platform diagnosing faults and correcting them.  Instruction will be given in the correct way to remove the platform from the clock, in diagnosing faults and in practical correction of these faults.

SKILLS FOR THE CLOCK/WATCHMAKER–HAND & MACHINE TOOLS
Designed to help beginners, first year DL students and those wishing to take horology as a hobby.  Advice on tools and equipment needed for basic clock and watch making and repairing. Includes hardening and tempering/polishing and bluing.

TURRET CLOCKS
Particularly useful for professional clock repairers, who from time to time are invited to do some work on a turret clock installation. Also suitable for those who are passionate about turret clocks and/or have a collection of turret clocks.  Diocesan clocks advisors who have practical skills may find the course useful.

VINTAGE WATCH & COLLECTORS OPEN WORKSHOP
Suitable for members interested in antique watches.  Expert tuition for watchmakers and collectors interested in antique watches. 

WATCHMAKERS’ LATHE
Acquire the knowledge and skills required to use the watchmaker’s lathe. Beneficial to students following the DL Final Grades I & II and members, amateurs or professionals wishing to learn how to correctly set up and use a watchmakers lathe.

WATCH SERVICING FOR THE RETAILER PARTS 1 & 2
Essential topics include types of watch, watch cases, watch batteries, button and stem fitting, glass fitting, movement replacement, spring bars and straps, dismantling and reassembling a typical quartz analogue movement.

WATCH WATER RESISTANCE TESTING
Everything you need to know about waterproof testing with air pressure testing and wet testing up to 130 bars.
