The author concentrates entirely on 17th century English and Continental watches with one exception of 1597. There is relatively little technical content, the article being focused on decorative details. There are a few annotations in pencil by Ilbert. Illustrated with the following photographs: 1. Dial of a South German watch, mid 17th century, with alarm 2. Underside of copper gilt case of same watch 3. Mid 17th century Augsburg made watch with alarm 4. Side view of iron movement of same watch 5. Back of copper-gilt watch case signed Jaques Bulke NB. Although author describes above watches as 17th century, they are almost certainly 16th century examples. Photographs continued: 6. Watch with rock crystal case by David Ramsey 7. View of same watch, potence plate, case open 8. Early 17th century watch with bloodstone case by N. Vollent 9. 17th century German watch with Kunkel case 10. Watch with octagonal case, dated 1597 11. Watch case in form of tulip by Chris Niderman 12. Skull shaped watch, late 17th century 13. Front view of the Amhurst watch, gold enamelled, School of Toutin 14. Inside cover of case of Amhurst watch. Movement (not shown) by Auguste Bretonneau, 1638-42. 15. Small French watch, champleve work 16. Watch with gold filigree outer case 17.
