The correspondence relates to an article to be written by Charles Allix (Asst. Sec., BHI), with help from C. Ilbert, in Apollo Magazine on the Life and Work of Thomas Mudge, Clockmaker. Correspondence includes the following; 1. Pencilled copy of letter to Brig. Gen. Arthur Mudge from C.Ilbert requesting a photo of the portrait of Mudge by Hudson and casting doubt on its authenticity. 2. Reply from Brig. Gen. A. Mudge to C. Ilbert, dated 21/9.1949, casting similar doubt on the portrait giving detailed reasoning 3. Letter to Charles Allix at BHI from Miss Maude Peake, Sec. To Parish Church of St Andrew with St Catherine, Plymouth, dated 5/8/1949, giving details of the inscription on tomb of Zachariah Mudge. 4. Letter to Charles Allix from Miss Maude Peake with information on the statue of Mudge and his clock in the tower. The statue survived when church was blitzed. 5. Two pamphlets on the Church of St Andrew, Plymouth - "Destroyed by Enemy Action in March, 1941". The first, a short history, the second, plans for restoration. 6. Four pages of notes in pen, apparently written by C. Ilbert with notes on the article for Apollo Magazine, presumably before publication.
