A slip of paper, dated 16th November, 1850 certifying the authenticity of gold watch no. 18847 by James McCabe, Royal Exchange, London. A description of the watch case and movement is written in ink. Printed at the bottom is a statement giving the reason for the need to authenticate McCabe watches, namely that many inferior watches (chiefly for the India Market) are sold with false McCabe signature. Together with this document is another blue slip of paper recording a purchase or a sale of a gold watch with the name Mrs E. Floyd written in ink at the top. The date would appear to be 31st January, 1851 but, although these two slips of paper have been attached together for many decades, it is unclear whether they are from the same source
