Short Courses

BHI VOCATIONAL (DLC) WORKSHOP COURSES

  • All our tutors are professionally qualified.
  • Course tutors are subject to change at short notice.
  • If you wish to register your interest for any particular course, please email education@bhi.co.uk.
  • A minimum of 3 students are required to allow our courses to run.
  • On request, we can provide bespoke vocational courses for less than 3 students at premium rates
  • We provide bespoke courses for our Corporate Members and Business Partners.
  • Courses are open to all BHI members – DLC students or those wishing to develop their skills.
  • Entry to Skills Development Parts 3 and 4 including all bespoke, advanced skills or master classes is subject to skills assessment.
  • If you are not an active DLC student, before you book a workshop course, we ask that you seek a free verbal assessment of your current horological skills and experience. This is necessary due to the high cost of timepieces that you will be using as training media.

Skills Development – Part 1 – DLC Preparation

Suitable for complete beginners and those preparing for their DLC studies. Including those who wish to refresh prior learning, or simply acquire basic metalworking and machine skills. You will gain essential knowledge about:

  • Workshop Safety
  • Metals for horology
  • Hand metal working
  • Machine metal working
  • Selection of metal working tools, machines and equipment for horology

Skills Development – Part 2 – DLC Level 3

Building on our Skills Development Part 1 this module is for:-

  • Those embarking on the BHI Technician Grade DLC Level 3 course
  • DLC students preparing for the BHI Level 3 exams
  • Those who have attended Skills Development Part 1
  • BHI members wishing to develop their current workshop skills and techniques
  • All applicants may be subject to a skills assessment before admittance to a course.

Skills Development – Part 3 – DLC Levels 4 and 5

  • Those studying the DLC towards Level 4 Diploma in Servicing and Repair
  • Those studying the DLC towards Level 5 Diploma in Repair, Restoration and Conservation
  • Members who wish to develop their specialist horological skills
  • All applicants may be subject to a skills assessment before admittance to a course.

Level 4 EAL/BHI Diploma meets the criteria for MBHI
Level 5 Diploma meets the criteria for FBHI


Skills Development – Part 4 – Master Classes – 
DLC Advanced Skills

  • Those who are working on their Record of Repairs for Level 4 Diploma in Servicing and Repair.
  • Those who are working on their Portfolio for Level 5 Diploma
  • Members who wish to advance their horological skills.
  • All applicants may be subject to a skills assessment before admittance to a course.

Level 4 EAL/BHI Diploma meets the criteria for MBHI
Level 5 Diploma meets the criteria for FBHI

Prices

Prices vary, depending on the nature and length of the course. You will find price details for each course in the Workshop Courses Booking Form below.

If you book your place on a course, we require a provisional booking fee. This is returned to you if we cancel a course. If you cancel or transfer your booking, the fee is non-refundable/non-transferable.

If you have booked provisionally and the course goes ahead as planned, we will confirm your place approximately six weeks in advance of the course date and ask you for full payment (minus the provisional booking fee), which is due then.

All courses take place at Upton Hall. For the duration of a course, we can also offer student B&B accommodation in the Hall at an extra cost.
