Relating to; "Improvements in Watches and Machines for Keeping Time". The text and illustraions describe five improvements as follows; A new method of making the verge for a common watch by fitting jewelled pallets in notches. Another variation of the verge where the pallets are set further backpast the centre so that when jewelled faces are added, the pallet angles will be correct. A detached marine chronometer escapement with locking detents on pivots with a simplified controlling spring.

Relates to; "An Improvement in the Manufacture of Escapaments for Chronometers, Clocks, and Watches". There are 13 drawings within the two fold out pages. The patent describes an escapement axis with a complete revolution for each impulse or, modified, two impulses for one revolution of the escapement axis. The purpose is to reduce the number of teeth normally used in an escape wheel so that it can be manufactured by persons of much less skill than is required for normal escapements. The patent describes Ulrich's chronometer escapement, an example of which is in the BHI Museum Collection Reprint of 1857 R.T.Gould is critical of Ulrich's work, as follows; "His personal skill, perseverance and ingenuity, were of a high order, but he suffered from a persistent tendency to prefer a complicated mechanism to a simple one, and from an entire lack of business adroitness and prudence".
