A postcard with a photograph of items from the stock of antique artefacts at the premises of Percy Webster, 37, Great Portland Street. A pencil mark on the photographs indicates the date 1837. Details on rear include the information that there are over 600 antique clocks to choose from and that the business will shortly be leaving these premises. The large musical watch in the centre rear of the photograph is now in the Gershom Parkington Collection, Moyses Hall Museum, Bury St Edmunds

The note concerns the watch collection of Mr. Garnier and a watch he tried to acquire from Baron Adolphe Rothschild, a ring watch of the 16th century. On reverse are sketches in ink of parts of an English lever escapement

A slip of paper, dated 16th November, 1850 certifying the authenticity of gold watch no. 18847 by James McCabe, Royal Exchange, London. A description of the watch case and movement is written in ink. Printed at the bottom is a statement giving the reason for the need to authenticate McCabe watches, namely that many inferior watches (chiefly for the India Market) are sold with false McCabe signature.

It is for an Ormolu Clock and Scotch Box totalling 24 pounds The receipt is headed HAWLEY'S, Goldsmiths and Watchmakers, To His Majesty, corner of Coventry Street facing the Haymarket The second receipt is dated 18th December, 1829 and is to W. Payne from J. Miller Esq., for the sum of two pounds, twelve shillings. It relates to the repair and maintenance of a French clock and may be the one referred to in the first receipt

The first receipt is dated May 23rd 1804. It is for the sum of 23 pounds and a gold watch valued at 22 pounds from George Giles and is for a gold chronometer by Haley, No. P/DS. The second receipt is dated 17th May, 1811 and is for the sum of one pound, six shillings and sixpence and is for the cleaning and repairing of a chronometer and a hunting watch. Both receipts are written in ink and would appear to be the same hand. They have been pinned together for some considerable time

Although it is not certain exactly what this elaborate heading for Robert Gardner is, the existance of the number 3912 on the top right suggests this is some form of receipt. On the right hand side is a high quality drawing of one of Gardner's 3/4 plate pocket chronometers of the A.P.Walsh calliper. In the centre is a small drawing of a bi-metallic chronometer balance with spring and with additional mercurial tubes for compensation against middle temperature error. Address given as 20, Lloyd Square
