Pages extracted from an unknown journal (possibly the Edinburgh Review), and bound separately between marbled paper covers.  Translated and abridged from Shumacher's Astronomische Nachrichten, March 1822.

Urbain (sic) Jurgensen described as "Chronometer-maker to the Danish Navy and Member of the Royal Society of Sciences at Copenhagen."

The author gives a brief precis of the developments in escapements for chronometers before describing his own, a variation of Earnshaw's spring detent escapement but one which utilises two very light escape wheels.

In Chamberlain's article, the history of the lever escapement is told from its earliest phase, mainly with reference to a 1792 pamphlet entitled; "An Answer to a Pamphlet entitled "A Narrative of Facts" lately published by Mr Thomas Mudge Junior relating to some Timekeepers constructed by his Father Mr Thomas Mudge." Includes much comment on the rivalry between Mudge and Emery. Also a photograph of the portrait of Count von Bruhl Also in this magazine;

In "Early Illustrations of Clock Escapements", the author describes pages from "Technica Curiosa", by P. Gasparis Schotti, published in 1644, (corrected in pencil by Ilbert to 1664?). Author relates how he acquired his copy of the book from a tip off from Commander Gould. 8 types of early escapement with pendulums are illustrated and described, all of them before the invention of the recoil (anchor) escapement was invented.. 2 combine verge escapements with pendulums and 2 are Gallileo types.
