The author describes the experiments carried out using a regulator timepiece with grid-iron pendulum by Haswell, together with apparatus designed for such experiments by Captain Kater.

Detailed descriptions given as to how the clock and apparatus were set up together with an excellent engraving showing the clock with the experiments taking place.

Thirty pages of charts giving precise details of the performance of the clock over the period of a month, readings of barometric pressure, temperature and humidity, and conclusions reached.

Pages extracted from an unknown journal (possibly the Edinburgh Review), and bound separately between marbled paper covers.  Translated and abridged from Shumacher's Astronomische Nachrichten, March 1822.

Urbain (sic) Jurgensen described as "Chronometer-maker to the Danish Navy and Member of the Royal Society of Sciences at Copenhagen."

The author gives a brief precis of the developments in escapements for chronometers before describing his own, a variation of Earnshaw's spring detent escapement but one which utilises two very light escape wheels.

A description, with pull out engraving, of a large sundial of great complexity, "...one of the most august Things of its Kind that ever was attempted, and contains no less than 73 different Sorts of Dials, ...".

This sundial had long been taken down by the time this was written and the account of it was taken from a book by a Jesuit, Fr. Hall.

Illustrated in a fold-out engraving (290mm x 200mm), "The Grand Pyramidical & Multiform Dial; Set up in the Privy Garden at White Hall. July 24, 1669."
