A pamphlet issued, "In Pursuance of the Trades Marks' Act, 1875" "Messrs. E. Dent & Co. beg to notify to their friends and the public, that for the purpose of preventing fraudulent imitation of the horological and other instruments of their manufacture, they have found it necessary to protect them by a distinctive "Mark", and have, therefore, under the above Act, registered the device DENT (within triangle). Every instrument constructed by them, after and including No. 38,000, has this "Mark", and without it any instrument will be spurious."
