Relates to "Certain Improvements in Chronometers". The patent describes six improvements as follows; An improved escapement designed to prevent stoppage from sudden shocks. A compensation device for the balance, another for the pedulum of an astronomical timekeeper, and the use of non magnetised material. A mechanism for stopping the hands of a watch without stopping the mechanism. A new method of locking and unlocking the striking parts of those chronometers that sound the time. A mechanism for releasing the striking parts of an alarm.

The patent describes Ulrich's chronometer escapement, an example of which is in the BHI Museum Collection Reprint of 1857 R.T.Gould is critical of Ulrich's work, as follows; "His personal skill, perseverance and ingenuity, were of a high order, but he suffered from a persistent tendency to prefer a complicated mechanism to a simple one, and from an entire lack of business adroitness and prudence".
