The following page is a guide to the mainspring winders available from commercial suppliers. The descriptions are very general and are for information only. No responsibility is accepted for for their accuracy and they should only be used as a guide as to which mainspring winder you should try before buying it. It is always best to see the winder in use or ask other repairers which winder they prefer BEFORE buying one yourself.
British traditional mainspring winder. This winder is used to put the mainspring back in to the barrel. It is not of any use to take mainsprings out of a barrel as it relies on the locating pins dropping into the hole at the end of the mainspring. The ratchet is bi-directional and is very safe. It comes with three arbors and a holding peg. This type of mainspring winder is available at most UK suppliers |
