Workshop Hints
Catching Small Parts

To all watchmakers

How much time do you spend on the floor looking for that part you just dropped

To reduce this waste of time take a piece of white cotton material about 100cm x 70 cm, your new pillow case will do, a piece of spring wire about 80cm long and 5mm dia.approx. plastic covered solid curtain rod is ideal, bend it to fit round your waist. and two pieces of Velcro.fastener

Ask your mother in law (if you are lucky) to sew a seam round the edge, One of the seams along one long side should be open ended and wide enough to pass the rod through, protect the ends of the rod with needle point protectors.
On the opposite corners sew the two pieces of Velcro (the soft halves). The nylon hook halves should be glued under the front edge of your bench about 40 cm either side of centre to attach the corners of the cloth to,

When in use this apron with corners attached to the bench will catch most items that try to escape your bench top therefore saving hours of time in a year, and is quickly removed when you have to answer the phone etc.
